Is everyone surviving the massive heat wave stretching the West Coast!? It's been very hot, in the land of large mountains! I've been traveling a lot back and forth between home home, and Utah for bit now, since we are getting ready for the day when Kev leaves for his mission..which is why I've been kinda MIA on here.
So, here comes the truth bomb...I taught Relief Society a couple of weeks ago, and was able to choose the lesson! I ended up choosing a topic after some pretty thoughtful consideration, and decided to talk about mental health. I have some friends that have and continue to struggle with anxiety, depression, and other various sorts issues that they have to deal with on a daily basis, and truthfully I have too. We live in a world that is full of social media...and let's be honest, most of us do it for the Gram...you know exactly what I'm talking about...we all post that perfect selfie, the amazing picture we took on the hike we did last week...and the amazing snapshots of our lives! In no way am I saying don't post that selfie...Girl you look good, do it! But what I am saying is it can become overwhelming for people that may not have it all together.
I am a person that loves to post a good picture...but lately, going through my feed and seeing almost everyone on my feed traveling the world (super jealous by the way) in relationships (also jealous) and getting engaged...shout out to wedding season...has been really, really hard. Like to the point of crying in my room, in my closet, and in the shower hard. It's hard when a person so desperately wants those things...traveling the world would be so dope...but so is paying bills...so I can have a car to drive to and from work. Being single is awesome..I've got super powers, and don't have to worry shaving my legs everyday. Seeing and hearing friends be happy with their love lives is amazing...I am so incredibly happy for them...but it's also really hard, especially when the people you see having potential futures with always leave...I guess what I'm saying is always be kind to those around you, because honestly...we and I mean we, never know what battles they are facing. Let's try and challenge ourselves to be better...post that make up free selfie, with your freckles showing...girl, you still look gorgeous! Post about the time you cried in the shower because you got a C+ on the final you thought you were going to ace! Life is not about constantly posting the best moments of our lives...it's not real, and it leads to comparison, jealousy, envy, and for a lot of people, real anxiety. Show the hard moments in your life, so maybe when your 60 and Instagram becomes the Facebook for our generation...your kids, and grandkids can look back and see that your life was not a series of constant highs...but it was real, it was an ebb and flow of peaks and valleys, that you got through...I'll say that again for the people in the back...you got through it!!!
I'm not saying it's going to be easy, or unchallenging...but it will be worth it! The best thing about the world that we live in, with information at the tips of our fingers quite literally...is that we can become the generation that changes things! Let people know the real you! Not the perfect version of you, and I guarantee that your story WILL help someone else, you just need to be comfortable sharing it!
Share you life, like you would share a good Kake recipe...we all need help getting better:)
